How Do I Change My Colorado Registered Agent?
You can change your registered agent in Colorado by filing a Statement of Change Changing Registered Agent Information form with the Colorado Secretary of State. Or, if the timing is right, you can change your registered agent on your company’s periodic report. Either one of these filings can be submitted online.
File a Statement of Change
- Fill Out the Form. Once you’re logged into your online account with the Colorado Secretary of State, you’ll be able to complete your Statement of Change Changing a Registered Agent. This form asks for your entity’s ID number and name, as well as the name and address of your new registered agent. You also have the option to delay the change of registered agent to a date of your choice.
- Submit Your Filing. Once the form is complete, you’ll be brought to a page where you can preview your transaction before submitting it to the secretary of state. Review this page carefully to make sure all of the information on the form is true. If it is, now’s the time to click “Submit.”
- Pay the Filing Fee. The Colorado Secretary of State charges a $10 filing fee for this filing. You have the option to pay with a credit card, debit card, or prepaid account information. Once your payment has been processed, you’ll have access to a confirmation page you can print out for the company’s records.
File a Periodic Report
- Check When Your Periodic Report is Due. In Colorado, all business entities are required to file a Periodic Report with the Colorado Secretary of State every year. Specifically, a periodic report is due during your business’s anniversary month (the month the company was formed). You can change your Registered Agent on this form if it’s due at the same time you plan on changing agents. You can file this report up to two months before the due date.
- Fill Out the Form. A periodic report acts as an information update for the state. It requires information like your company’s ID number, address, and registered agent information. If you want to change registered agents, include your new agent’s name, street address, and mailing address on this form.
- Submit Your Filing. After completing the periodic report, you’ll have an opportunity to review it and make sure all of the information you’ve provided is correct. If everything looks good, click “Submit.”
- Pay the Filing Fee. Periodic reports cost $10 to file. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or prepaid account information.
